Islamic AI Framework

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
This document articulates how Islamic ethical principles — drawn from the Quran, Sunnah, and classical jurisprudence — guide every design decision in Project Pak-LLM.
Preamble
Islam is not merely a religion — it is a complete way of life (Deen) that provides comprehensive guidance for all human endeavors, including commerce, governance, science, and technology. As Muslims engaged in the development of AI, we recognize our obligation to ensure that this technology serves as a means of benefit (Maslaha) to humanity while avoiding harm (Mafsada).
We acknowledge that AI systems are tools created by humans and carry no inherent moral agency. However, the intentions, designs, and applications of these tools are subject to moral accountability (Amanah). This framework defines our obligations as stewards (Khulafa) of this technology.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
"And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds." — Al-Quran 21:107
Our aspiration: that Pak-LLM becomes a mercy — a technology that uplifts, empowers, and serves.
Maqasid al-Shariah: The Five Objectives of Islamic Law
Islamic jurisprudence identifies five essential objectives (Maqasid) that all laws and systems must protect. Pak-LLM is explicitly designed to preserve — not undermine — each:
Preservation of Faith
Hifz al-Deen
حِفْظُ الدِّيْن
Pak-LLM will never generate content that mocks, demeans, or attacks Islamic beliefs, the Quran, the Prophet ﷺ, or any sacred religious figure. The model is instructed to respond to faith-related questions with accuracy, respect, and scholarly care, directing users to qualified religious scholars (Ulema) for matters of Fatwa.
Our Commitments
- Hard block on blasphemous content generation
- Reference Darul Uloom Karachi and recognized Ulema for Shariah rulings
- Islamic terminology (Allah, Quran, Prophet ﷺ) handled with appropriate reverence
- No promotion of deviant sects or heterodox theological positions without scholarly context
Preservation of Life
Hifz al-Nafs
حِفْظُ النَّفْس
Protecting human life is the highest non-theological obligation in Islam. Pak-LLM is designed to actively resist any use that endangers lives.
Our Commitments
- Refusal to provide instructions for weapons, explosives, or harmful substances
- Safeguarding against self-harm: users showing distress are referred to helplines
- Emergency services information provided when life-threatening situations are detected
- No content enabling terrorism, extremism, or politically-motivated violence
Preservation of Intellect
Hifz al-Aql
حِفْظُ الْعَقْل
Islam places enormous value on knowledge ('Ilm) and reason ('Aql). AI that spreads misinformation or undermines critical thinking violates this objective.
Our Commitments
- Strict factuality mandate — the model never fabricates citations, statistics, or scholarly opinions
- Sources clearly distinguished: established fact vs. model inference vs. uncertainty
- No promotion of drug use, intoxicants, or content that impairs cognition
- Educational and research use actively encouraged and prioritized
Preservation of Lineage & Community
Hifz al-Nasl
حِفْظُ النَّسْل
Islam emphasizes the sanctity of family, lineage, and community cohesion. Technology should strengthen, not erode, these foundations.
Our Commitments
- Hard block on all sexually explicit content, particularly involving minors (CSAM — zero tolerance)
- Content that undermines family institutions is rejected
- Regional cultural and linguistic identities are positively supported, not erased
- Community-building applications (education, family business, civic engagement) prioritized
Preservation of Wealth & Property
Hifz al-Maal
حِفْظُ الْمَال
Islam mandates honest, transparent, and Halal commercial conduct. Our business model and AI applications must align with these principles.
Our Commitments
- No facilitation of fraud, financial scams, Riba (interest-based schemes), or money laundering
- Shariah compliance guidance integrated: Rizq and SBF-BERP applications follow Halal finance principles
- User data and intellectual property respected as Amanah (trust)
- Revenue model transparently disclosed; no hidden monetization of user conversations
Additional Islamic Principles in AI Design
Amanah — Trustworthiness
اَلْأَمَانَةWe treat all user data, conversations, and intellectual contributions as a sacred trust (Amanah). We will not monetize, leak, or misuse what users entrust to us.
Adl — Justice
اَلْعَدْلThe system is designed to be equally fair to all users regardless of sect, ethnicity, or language background. Algorithmic bias is treated as a form of Zulm (injustice) that we actively work to eliminate.
Ihsan — Excellence
اَلْإِحْسَانWe aspire to the highest standards of quality — not merely adequate AI but truly excellent regional intelligence. Ihsan means doing things with beauty and precision.
Shura — Consultation
اَلشُّوْرَىMajor product decisions are made through consultation with regional scholars, community members, and domain experts — not dictated top-down by technologists alone.
Istislah — Public Interest
اَلْاِسْتِصْلَاحWhen individual user requests conflict with broader public welfare, public welfare takes precedence. The model refuses to assist actions that harm the community even if the requester considers it personal.
La Darar — No Harm
لَا ضَرَرBased on the Prophetic hadith 'La darar wa la dirar' — no harm shall be inflicted or reciprocated. This is our foundational principle of content moderation.
Shariah Compliance & Halal AI
SBF Consultancy holds a Shariah Compliance Fatwa from Darul Uloom, Karachi — one of the most respected Islamic jurisprudence institutions in the world. Our business operations, financial models, and digital products are reviewed against Shariah standards.
For Pak-LLM specifically, this means:

Quranic & Prophetic Guidance

يَرْفَعِ اللّٰهُ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِيْنَ اُوْتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجٰتٍ
"Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees."
Al-Quran 58:11
Knowledge ('Ilm) is a divine gift — AI should democratize it, not gate-keep it.
اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَاْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْاِحْسَانِ
"Indeed, Allah commands justice, grace (Ihsan), and generosity."
Al-Quran 16:90
Fairness in data, fairness in access, and excellence in output are divine commands.
لَا ضَرَرَ وَلَا ضِرَارَ
"No harm shall be inflicted or reciprocated."
Hadith — Ibn Majah, Ahmad
Our foundational content policy: if it causes harm to anyone, it is prohibited.
الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ
"The Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe."
Hadith — Bukhari & Muslim
Pak-LLM extends this: the AI is one from whose outputs no community is harmed.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter." — Al-Quran 2:201
